Powering our Planet - Electricity to Hydrogen
I keep hearing hydrogen is the answer to our power generation problems. Hydrogen is created from electricity and where is all the electricity going to come from. Converting electricity to hydrogen actually looses a huge amount potential energy. Hydrogen may still be the best way to transport electricity to remote areas where electricity can't be generated or use in motorized vehicles because it turns out to be the best option. We will still have to solve the issue of hydrogen escaping into the atmosphere before we can mass deploy the technology. We can not allow a huge amount of hydrogen to escape in the atmosphere. Compressed air is another possible solution for motorized vehicles without the dangers of hydrogen. If compressed air is chosen for cars, it still may be necessary for hydrogen in some vehicles that require more power such as airlines, heavy equipment, Semi's or large marine ships. So any argument that hydrogen is the answer to our energy requirements is a stupid argument unless someone has figured out how to create hydrogen chemically without electricity.
Hydrogen will actually cause a much greater demand on future electricity generation even though it is probably warranted.
